Thesis

Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini revolutionized an entire nation with the power of his voice. The religious cleric won the hearts and trust of the Iranians by causing the downfall of the despised Shah. However, the Ayatollah misused that trust. He took matters to the extreme of his ideas, establishing a strict Islamic Republic which led to the regression of the nation. The revolution by Ruhollah Khomeini was a success in a sense but a failure in another.

"What we had not predicted was that a 78 year old man, an Ayatollah who had spent 14 years in exile, could forge together these forces and turn all of these volcanos into one immense volcano, into a national and real revolution."

   Director of the CIA
